Here are some ideas for making the holidays a little healthier and more manageable.
- Start with the vegetables: not only will you make sure you get your nutrients in, starting with the veggies fills you up with the good stuff, letting you finish with smaller amounts of your other favorite (but maybe less healthy) dishes.
- Take time to exercise not only can it help your energy balance and strengthen your body, but it can also ease your stress levels, which in turn can improve your motivation and discipline. Try breaking up the time into smaller chunks – a yoga session here, a brisk walk there.
- No food is off limits see food is fuel. Second, some of these foods only come around once a year and if they bring you joy, enjoy it.
- If you love pumpkin and pecan pie equally, get the pumpkin. It generally has far fewer calories and much less sugar.
There is nothing better than a wonderful winter night with the people you love the most and some of the best nourishment. Enjoy it – don’t overdo it, but enjoy it.
